Agritas is an agricultural based training college located in Smithton, north west Tasmania. It offers nationally recognised, agricultural qualifications, supporting the growth of the local agricultural industry.

 

The vision for an agricultural college was formed by the local community, and became a reality when the Federal Government announced funding for the project. Situated on rural land and forming the gateway to the Smithton town centre, this 750m2 facility features a large Workshop, two Laboratories, two General Learning Areas, a commercial kitchen and flexible use hub, offices, and other amenities.

 

The design features many sustainable principles such as a solar power system, wind turbine, water collection and reuse systems, low VOC and PVC materials, renewable structural materials and onsite waste water management.

 

The building will be a keystone to elevating the local agricultural industry to the national stage, and provides a template for similar colleges throughout Australia.
