PROJECT DETAILS

The Circular Head Christian School Science Centre is located in Smithton, Tasmania, and was funded by the Federal Government through the Building the Education Revolution Program. It was conceived as a ‘living science centre’, to demonstrate a benchmark science educational facility, seeking to develop and support sustainable thinking for the future.

By interpreting the unique locality, climate and economics of the far North West of Tasmania, CBM, together with the CHCS Science Leadership team, explored teaching and learning platforms of sustainable sciences in a way that is directly relevant to the region's significant generation of wind energy, net excess of fresh water and its agricultural economy.

The facility incorporates both on-site PV solar and wind turbine systems, as well as a custom-designed educational monitoring web interface, which monitors the facility specific energy usage, water usage, PV solar generation, wind turbine generation and external temperatures.
