PROJECT DETAILS
Proposed for a site on the remote and rugged Lady Barron Island in Tasmania’s north east, CBM explored the idea of a home constructed predominately from the interconnection of used shipping containers. The 5 containers form the built footprint (totalling 135m²) and accommodate all the typical fundamental requirements of a home.
The spatial interconnections of the house are influenced by the physical dimensions of the containers. An internal stair case connects the containers across 2 levels. Additional penetrations for feature windows to the expansive views have been included in the appropriate locations. The upper level containers have been positioned to also cantilever the lower ground floor plan, to create a covered entry, patio and a unique iconic beacon.
