The proposed respite facility has been designed to facilitate patients’ transition from the hospital to their homes for short to medium term out patients. The facility will provide additional respite care in Launceston, with seven accommodation suites for patients, as well as accommodation for on-shift carers.

 

The project is to be located within an existing residential suburb and the design has considered this context, with the external scale and material palette reflecting this residential setting. Part of the project brief was for the building to feel more homely and inviting internally than a traditional institutional facility, integrating the required medical functions into a more domestic setting.
