CBI AIR FACILITY

CAPE BARREN ISLAND, TAS

PROJECT DETAILS

This design aimed to resolve many challenges such as how to construct easily and efficiently in a remote and isolated location such as Cape Barren Island.

The design brief called for the basic fundamental needs including shelter, running water and access toilet facilities in the form of a waiting lounge and rest room, to facilitate passengers traveling to and from the island.

The building’s materials feature a compilation of hard wearing products such as concrete, metal sheeting and ply woods. The positioning takes advantage of views to the air strip, solar orientation and the Island’s natural beauty. The constructability of design has been considered to allow a builder to erect the shelter with minimum materials, tools and services, making onsite build time fast and easy.
